Recently, EFX successfully completed the delivery of a smart warehousing upgrade for a leading safety protection group. The project focused on integrating the existing Phase I warehouse with the newly built Phase II warehouse, connecting material flows across workshops, and coordinating legacy and new systems through a unified automation architecture.
The solution includes 16 double-deep, twin-mast stacker cranes, each 19 meters high with a rated load of 1,000 kg, together with chain conveyors, roller conveyors, transfer units, RGVs, inter-floor lifts, and WMS/WCS software. The integrated design enables coordinated operation between physical equipment and warehouse information systems.
To address the efficiency challenge of long-distance transport between facilities, the project uses a loop RGV system with track-switching capability, dividing long routes into shorter relay segments to improve cross-warehouse and cross-workshop throughput. Steel platforms also allow stacker cranes to handle loads directly at multiple levels, reducing dependence on intermediate lift transfers and shortening vertical transport routes.
At the control level, Siemens PLCs and a unified PROFINET communication architecture form the core of the system. The Phase I control programs were upgraded, while RGVs, stacker cranes, lifts, and conveyors were brought under a common scheduling platform, resolving differences in communication protocols and control logic between legacy and new equipment.
The successful delivery further improves the customer’s level of automation, digitalization, and operational coordination, while demonstrating EFX’s capabilities in complex smart-warehouse planning, equipment integration, and software control. EFX will continue to support manufacturers with efficient, flexible, and scalable intralogistics solutions for their digital and intelligent transformation initiatives.
